Invisalign FAQs

Read the answers to questions that many patients have about Invisalign:

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners that are usually replaced every two weeks. Dr. Graham or a member of her team will take impressions of your teeth and send them to Invisalign’s lab. The clear aligners are constructed according to the position of the teeth. When the aligners are complete, we will ensure that they fit you properly. The aligners are worn for 22 hours a day and may be removed for you to eat or brush your teeth. Depending on the severity of your tooth misalignment, your treatment can take several months or longer.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Because Invisalign is removable, patients can easily eat, drink, or brush their teeth. Invisalign aligners are clear so they are less noticeable than other treatment options. Although we will schedule check-up appointments so we can track your progress,  significantly less time is spent in our office.

How does Invisalign compare to traditional braces?

Traditional braces use metal brackets and wires that can irritate the gums. Metal braces also come with dietary restrictions. Patients cannot eat chewy, sticky, or hard foods when wearing braces as this can damage them. Invisalign aligners are removable, so patients can eat what they want. The clear Invisalign aligners conform to the teeth and offer more comfort. However, metal braces are best for patients with more severe orthodontic concerns. Invisalign treats patients with mild to moderate concerns.
